  General Notes:

George and Anne Barber were recorded by the 1841 UK census for Galston Ayrshire living at Orchard Street with their three children. Helen was recorded as aged 5 years of age and had been born in Ayrshire.

Helen was christened in 1836, and married in 1858. She died in 1877. Between these dates she must have had very little time to herself, and as a married woman, the wife of a coal miner, having ten or eleven children, her sorrows and difficulties must have been many. Not all of her children survived, and when she herself died, her eldest child would have just become 18 years old.

In the 1871 census Helen was recorded as aged 32 years. Her husband Thomas was a coal miner. The family surname was recorded as Tweedly. Helen was described as a 'cotton winder'.

At her death in 1877 Helen was aged 41 years. 15

  Medical Notes:

Dr John B. McLeod certified the cause of death.

Helen's widower, Thomas, who was present, signed the notice with his X mark at Galston on 22 May 1877 before the registrar James C. Hutchison.

Helen married Thomas QUIGLEY, son of John QUIGLY (DNA Linked) and Catharine LYNAS (DNA Linked), on 5 June 1858 in Kilmarnock, Ayrshire, Scotland.1 (Thomas QUIGLEY was born on 17 December 1833 in Johnstone, Renfrewshire, Scotland 2 16 17, baptised on 22 December 1833 in St Mirin's RC Chapel, Paisley, Renfrewshire, Scotland 17 and died between 1889 and 1920 18.)

  Marriage Notes:

This date was provided in the birth certificate of James McCallum Quigley, their son, in 1869, but no record of it has yet been found.
