   Cause of his death was pneumonia.

   Other names for Thomas were TWEDDLEY, Thomas 4 and TWEEDLY, Thomas.3

  General Notes:

His mother Helen must have been expecting this child when the 1871 census was taken.

In 1881 the census recorded Thomas living with his widowed father and his family at 59 Lethan Hill, Dalmellington, Ayrshire. Thomas was aged 9 years and termed a 'scholar'.

On 26 March 1889, three 'Tweedlys' of Scottish nationality arrived in New York form Glasgow aboard the Devonia. Two were called Thomas Tweedly and one Ellen Tweedly. The elder Thomas Tweedly gave an age, 45 years, that made his birth years about 1844; the younger's was about 1871, having given an age of 18 years. Ellen Tweedly was of an age, 16 years, to make her born about 1873. Both of the men were miners by occupation and Ellen was noted as a house servant. The men travelled 'No4 steerage' and Ellen 'No 2 steerage'.

The 1900 UK Federal Census recorded a man of 29 years of age living as an inmate in the City Poor House of St Louis, Missouri. His occupation, like that of the other inmates was noted as 'None-Insane'. He was a single man, born in Scotland as were both of his parents. His name was recorded as Thomas Tweddley. His arrival in the US was noted as 1891, making it nine years that he was living in the US. He had never been naturalised. Thomas could read, write and speak English.

The City of St Louis, Missouri, Health Department issued a death certificate for Thomas Tweddley, a single, white male, who died 23 August 1902. The year of birth for Thomas was recorded as 1871 and his age as 31 years. His occupation was laborer and his place of birth was Scotland. Thomas had been an inmate of the Poor House from 16 August 1899 until his death on 23 August 1902. 3

  Medical Notes:

M. E. Sheets MD attended Thomas Tweddley in his last illness and certified the cause of his death.

The Office of Health Department gave permission to inter the body of Thomas Tweddley and this was done by the City Undertaker in Pottersfield Cemetery.
