No birth or baptism record has been found for George Haimes.

Several of the baptismal entries in the Haddington parish register for George's children recorded George Hames [sic] as a shoemaker.

An assumption has been made that George Haimes died before 1841 census was taken. In 1841 the census for St John's Haddington East Lothian recorded Isobel Haimes, as a presumed sole parent, living in Church Street with three of her sons and one daughter. She was of independent means.

In the death certificate of George's son Richard in 1856, George Haimes was recorded as a shoemaker, although he was not noted as deceased.

In the 1866 death certificate of his son John, George Haimes was recorded as a 'shoemaker deceased'.

Alexander Haimes, George's son, died in 1867 in Haddington. George, who was deceased, was recorded as a master shoemaker.

The death certificate of his son George in 1883 recorded George senior as a shoemaker by occupation. ^{3 5}

George married Isabell MOWAT DNA Linked, daughter of Alexander MOWAT Shoemaker and Elizabeth ANDERSON, on 14 June 1799 in Haddington parish, East Lothian, Scotland.¹ (Isabell MOWAT DNA Linked was born on 12 September 1779 ³, baptised on 19 September 1779 in Haddington parish, East Lothian, Scotland,³ died on 14 December 1859 in High Street, Haddington, East Lothian, Scotland ⁴ and was buried in 1859 in Haddington Churchyard, East Lothian, Scotland ⁴.). The cause of her death was palsy and old age.
