Richard Hames was a "cationer" (cautioner), at the time of the marriage of his sister in law Mary to John Lawrie in 1770 in Haddington. The entry for this marriage is to be found on the same page of the parish register as the marriage of Alexander Muoat and Elisabath Anderson. ¹

Richard married Janet LAUDER, daughter of Charles LAWDER and Margaret WOOD, on 6 November 1757 in Haddington, East Lothian, Scotland. (Janet LAUDER was born on 19 August 1735 ⁴ and was baptised on 24 August 1735 in Haddington, East Lothian, Scotland.)
