"Hemes George, Shoemaker, and Isabel Muat, had a Daughter born 4th. and baptized 26th. Septr. name Jean Wit. Thomas and George Muat."

In 1841 the census for St John's Haddington East Lothian recorded Jean Haimes living in Church Street with her mother and three brothers. Jean was placed in the 15-19 years age category and had been born in the county in which she was living. No occupation was entered for her.
