  General Notes:

The 1841 census for Galston in Ayrshire, Scotland, recorded James Wood and Mrs Agnes Wood and their four children living at Greenholm Nelson Street. The third child was Anne Wood. She was 4 years old and had been born in Ayrshire.

Ann was living with Michael, her husband, in Iron Work Square, Galston in 1871. She had four small children to care for including an infant a few weeks old. Her husband was a coal miner and their home had one windowed room.

In the 1891 census Ann was recorded aged 54 years. She had four children and two grandchildren staying in a small house with only two windowed rooms. She was an Ayrshire 'miner's wife'.

The 1901 census recorded Annie Quigley living at 5 Chapel Lane, Galston with her son William, her daughter Catherine and a boarder Andrew Edgar, aged 25 years and born in Dumfries. He was a railway signalman. Annie was of course a widow by then and was recorded as aged 64 years.

Annie Quigley died in 1914, just before the start of World War 1. She was the widow of Michael Quigley, coal miner. She was aged 76 years. Both her parents were already dead. ^{5 7}

John Quigley, Annie's son, who was present where her death occurred, informed the registrar at Galston, Thomas White, on 30 May 1914, of his mother's death.

Ann married Michael QUIGLY, son of John QUIGLY (DNA Linked) and Catharine LYNAS (DNA Linked), on 3 June 1864 in St Joseph's RC Chapel, Kilmarnock, Ayrshire, Scotland.¹ (Michael QUIGLY was born on 25 June 1836 in Crossley, Paisley, Renfrewshire, Scotland ^{3 4}, baptised on 31 July 1836 in St Mirin's RC Chapel, Paisley, Renfrewshire, Scotland and died 26 January 1895 at 7.40 pm in Chapel Lane, Galston, Ayrshire, Scotland ⁸.). The cause of his death was chronic catarrh of lungs of uncertain duration.

  Marriage Notes:

The couple were married according to the rites of the Roman Catholic Church. They were married by Fr John McLachlan RCC who also witnessed the marks of bride and groom. The other witnesses to this were Edward McDonald, John McGary and Catherine McLaughlin. The certificate was issued by J. Gregory, registrar.

The groom, Michael Quigley, made his X mark. He was an unmarried man of 26 years of age, a coal miner, residing at Church Lane in Galston. His father John, was already dead.

The bride was Ann Woods. She was a 27 year old unmarried woman of Loudon parish. She too made her X mark. Both her parents were deceased. Ann's father was named as 'Andrew' Woods, a weaver. ¹
