   Cause of his death was chronic myocarditis, chronic bronchitis, and emphysema.

  General Notes:

When Michael was born in 1877 it was his father, Michael, who informed the registrar and made his X mark before James C. Hutchison at Galston on 11 June 1877.

Michael was recorded in the 1891 census: he was a coal miner aged 14 years, unmarried and living with his parents, sister and two brothers, a nephew and a niece, in Galston.

The 1901 census recorded Micheal [sic] Quigley, his wife Catherine and his son Michael living at 35 Orchard Street Galston. Michael senior was recorded as aged 23 years and worked as a coal miner.

In July of 1901 Michael gave notice to the registrar of the birth of his son, John. His occupation was recorded in John's birth certificate as that of coal miner.

Michael's son Patrick was born in 1904. Michael was the informant before Thomas White, registrar, at Galston on 30 May 1904. Michael's occupation was recorded as coal miner.

Michael died in 1935, and was described in his death certificate as a coal miner, aged 58 years, and married to Catherine McGhee. Both of his parents were then dead. 3

J. Hamilton MB ChB certified the cause of death.

Patrick Quigley, son of the deceased, who had been present where the death occurred, gave notice before Margaret C. Smith, registrar, at Galston on 16 September 1935. Patrick's address was noted as 21 Ranoldsoup Road, Darvel.


Michael married Catherine McCluskey McGHEE, daughter of Michael McGHEE and Mary McNAMARA, on 2 June 1899 in St Sophia's Chapel, Galston, Ayrshire, Scotland. (Catherine McCluskey McGHEE was born on 4 April 1879 in Galston, Ayrshire, Scotland and died on 5 September 1944 in Galston, Ayrshire, Scotland 6.)


  Marriage Notes:

The marriage was celebrated after banns according to the rites and forms of the Roman Catholic Church. The celebrant was the Reverend David Barrett RC Clergyman. The witnesses were William Quigley and Margaret Graham.

Michael Quigley was a bachelor, aged 21, of Chapel Lane Galston. He worked as a coal miner.
Catherine McCluskey McGhee was a lappet weaver, aged 20. She lived at Ironwork Square Galston. She was unmarried.

The marriage was registered at Galston on June 5 1899, Thomas White being the registrar.
