   Another name for James was WOODS, Andrew.³

  General Notes:

The 1841 census for Galston in Ayrshire, Scotland, recorded James Wood and Mrs Agnes Wood and their four children living at Greenholm Nelson Street. With the family lived also William Wood, aged 59 years, a labourer, and Francis Wood, age noted as 15 years (which may be 15-19 years), a weaver. James Wood himself was a weaver aged in the 35-39 years age range and born in Ayrshire.


According to his daughter Ann's marriage lines in 1864 Andrew was 'a harness weaver' and was already deceased by then.

When his grandson John Quigley informed the registrar of Ann Woods death in 1914, he gave her father's name as 'Andrew Woods'. As far as is known none of her sons were called Andrew. It may be that her grandfather was Andrew and her father James.

James married Agnes PERCY on 8 June 1828 in Galston, Ayrshire, Scotland.¹ (Agnes PERCY was born between 1802 and 1806 in Ayrshire, Scotland.)

The 24 May 1828 record in Loudoun Parish, Ayrshire is probably part of the calling of banns process. ⁴
