  General Notes:

When the 1871 census was taken on the 3 April Catherine was less than a month old. She was living in Iron Work Square with her family in a house with only one windowed room. She was probably named after her grandmother Catherine Lynas Quigley.

It was probably she who was a witness at her sister Agnes Quigley's marriage in July 1888.

In 1901 Catherine was recorded by the 1901 census. She was living at 5 Chapel Lane with her mother and brother. She was recorded as aged 30 years and was still single. She worked as a Leno weaver.

Catherine's death certificate of 1954 recorded her as 'Catherine Freeman widow of James Freeman coal miner-hewer' and her age as 83 years. Both of her parents were deceased. 5

  Medical Notes:

Isabelle G. R. Nimmo MB ChB certified the cause of death.

James Freeman, Catherine's step-son, who had been present where the death occurred, gave notice of her death before William Hannah, registrar, at Kilmaurs on 9 July 1954.

Catherine married James FREEMAN, son of James FREEMAN and Catherine DUFF, on 5 June 1926 in St Sophia's Chapel, Galston, Ayrshire, Scotland. (James FREEMAN was born on 21 May 1874 in Kilmaurs, Ayrshire, Scotland and died between 1926 and 1954.)

  Marriage Notes:

The marriage was solemnised after banns according to the rites and forms of the Roman Catholic Church. The priest was John Murphy, RC Clergyman of St Sophia's Galston. The witnesses were William Freeman of 9 Irvine Road Kilmarnock, and Susan McIlroy of Orchard Street Galston.

James Freeman, the bridegroom, was a widower of 51 years of age. His address was recorded as Eastpark Building, Knockintiber [sic]. Both of his parents were deceased.

Catherine Quigley was a single woman recorded as 53 years old, of Manse Brae Galston. Her parents were deceased.

The marriage was registered at Galston on 7 June 1926, Thomas Smith being the recording officer.
