In the 1855 birth certificate of her daughter, Mary, Martha was recorded, on information provided by her husband, as being 19 years old. She had been born in County Tyrone, Ireland, and Mary was her second child, the first, a boy, having died.

Martha was recorded with her husband Robert and seven children living at 110 Mid Row in the Rosehall area of Old Monkland in 1871, when the census was taken. She was aged 34 years and had been born in Ireland. Her house had one windowed room.

In 1879, when her son, Thomas, was married, Martha was recorded in his marriage certificate as 'Martha Morgan formerly Cavanagh Maiden Surname Crawford'.

The 1881 census recorded a Martha Cavanagh with seven of her children living at 10 Calder Street, Blantyre. Head of the household, she was aged 44 years and was a 'miner's widow'. She had been born in Ireland.

When Martha died in 1916 she was recorded as 78 years old. ^{10 12 13}

Martha married Robert CAVANAGH, son of Michael CAVANAGH and Mary CAMPBELL, on 10 September 1853 in St Patrick's RC Church, Coatbridge, Lanarkshire, Scotland.¹ (Robert CAVANAGH was born about 1832 in County Armagh, Ireland ^{14 15} and died 11 November 1872 at 0.30 am in 110 Rosehall, Old Monkland Parish, Lanarkshire, Scotland ¹⁶.). The cause of his death was unknown.

  Marriage Notes:

In the 1855 birth certificate of their daughter Mary, Robert and Martha's marriage was recorded as having taken place in Coatbridge in 1853. The marriage place and date of this couple was given in the birth certificate of their son James as Coatbridge, Old Monkland in November 1853.

The couple were married by Father Michael O'Keeffe in the presence of John Cavanagh and Mary Lenton.

The OPRs statement of 31 July 1853 in Bothwell parish as date and place, were most probably the banns of the marriage. ^{1 17}

Martha next married Hugh MORGAN on 17 February 1874 in Old Monkland Parish, Lanarkshire, Scotland. (Hugh MORGAN was born about 1835 and died in 1877 in Blantyre, Lanarkshire, Scotland ¹⁰.)
