   Another name for Thomas was CAVANAH, Thomas.4

  General Notes:

Father Michael O'Keeffe baptised Thomas in 1857, on the same day as his cousin Jane. Jane's father, John Cavanagh, was one of her baptismal sponsors. The other was a woman named Mary, her surname unclear on the record, possibly Mannion, or Maurice.

Thomas was the eldest of the children living with Robert and Martha Crawford at 110 Mid Row at Rosehall in Old Monkland parish in 1871. Thomas was 14 years old, worked as a collier, and had been born in the parish of Bothwell.

The 1881 census for Blantyre recorded Thomas Cavanagh, his wife, and their two children living at 2 Govan Street, Blantyre. Thomas was recorded as aged 24 years and working as a coal miner. His birthplace was noted as Coatbridge.

In the 1901 census for Blantyre, Thomas Cavanah, his wife Bridget, and their six children, were recorded living at Greenside Place. The head of the household, Thomas, was a coal miner aged 43 years and had been born in Old Monkland. 2 3 4 5


Thomas married Bridget HIGGINS, daughter of Michael HIGGINS and Mary DUFFY, on 20 February 1879 in RC Church, Stonefield, Blantyre. Lanarkshire, Scotland.1 (Bridget HIGGINS was born in 1861 in Ireland 1.)


  Marriage Notes:

The marriage was celebrated after banns according to the rites and forms of the Roman Catholic Church. The presiding priest was Father Thomas Trawley. The witnesses were Robert Cavanagh and Margaret Cavanagh.

Thomas Cavanagh, who made his X mark, was a coal miner. He was unmarried and aged 20 years. His address was noted as 25 Calder Street, Blantyre. His father was deceased.

Bridget Higgins was an eye worker of 19 years of age. She lived at Middle Row, Blantyre, and was unmarried.

The marriage was registered on 21 February 1879 at Blantyre, George Harris being the signing registrar. 1
