  General Notes:

Michael Cavanagh was recorded in the 1841 census for Airdrie, Lanarkshire, living with his wife and children in Aitchison Street, Airdrie. His age was noted as being in the 40 to 44 years range. He was a labourer, and he was born in Ireland. His wife Mary, along with his two daughters and three sons, made up his household.

In the 1851 census, Michael and his family were recorded residing within the Carnbroe Ironworks village in Lanarkshire, which was between the South Calder Water and the Wishaw and Coltness Railway, near the village of Brewsterford and New Carnbroe Ironworks. Their address was 4 Upper Row. Michael, aged 56 years, and Mary, aged 55 years, were recorded living with four of their children and one grandchild. Michael and three of his sons were ironstone miners. His daughter, Alice, was a widow, and it was her daughter, Mary, who was the grandchild staying with them.

Michael's daughter, Elizabeth, died in October 1857, and Michael was recorded as deceased on her death certificate. He was recorded there as having been a coal miner.

In 1863, Sarah, Michael Cavanagh's daughter, died. He was deceased then, of course, and was recorded as an iron miner in her death certificate.

When Mary Cavanagh, nee Campbell, died in 1959 in Glasgow, her son John was the informant, and Mary was recorded in her death certificate as the widow of an ironstone miner. 3 4 5
