The parish register for the Roman Catholic parish of Lower Killeavy, Newry, Armagh, records the baptism of Ellin Cavanagh.

Helen was the youngest member of her family living in Aitchison Street, Airdrie, as recorded in the 1841 census. She was just 3 years old and had been born in Ireland. Thus the deduction must be that the family had been in Scotland for less than 3 to 4 years, from 1837 or later.

Helen was not recorded with her parents and family in the 1851 census, where they were working and living at Carnbroe in Bothwell parish. ^{2 3 6}

Ellin married James McCAFFERY on 8 July 1853 in St Patrick's RC Church, Coatbridge, Lanarkshire, Scotland.¹ (James McCAFFERY was born about 1835.)

  Marriage Notes:

James McCaffery and Ellen Cavanagh were married by Father Michael O'Keeffe in the presence of Francis Gunn and Bridget Scullion.

NOTE: The date and place given in the IGI of 19 June 1853 in Bothwell parish, Lanarkshire, Scotland was most probably the banns of marriage.
