In the 1841 census a Patrick McKillop aged 25-29 years lived with his parents and brothers at Aitchison St Airdrie. He was an iron miner.

On 5 February 1843 Patrick [sic] and Isabella McKillop were sponsors at the baptism of Jane Harkin, lawful daughter of John Harkin and Jane McKillop

On 26 February 1843 Patrick McKillop [sic] and Isabella Quigley were witnesses at the marriage of Arthur McCormick and Mary Black at St Margaret's RC Chapel Airdrie. The celebrant priest was Fr Alex Smith. The couple being married were noted as being resident in Rawyards Airdrie.

On 21 November 1843 Peter McKillip and Isabella Quigly were sponsors at the baptism of Mary, lawful daughter of Charles Kelly and Catherine Bocanan at St Margaret's RC Chapel Airdrie. Fr William Walsh baptised the child who had been born on 3 August 1843.

The 1851 census records Peter as married but living at his parents' home without his wife and small family. His age was given as 32 years. His occupation was recorded as 'miner'.

The 1861 census for New Monkland parish Lanarkshire recorded Peter McKellop, aged 45 years and an Ironstone miner, living at 36 Bell Street with his wife Isabella and their six children, Cathrine, Duncan, John, Peter, Margaret and Arthur. Peter had been born in Airdrie and his wife in Busby, Renfrewshire. The children aged between 1 year and 16 years had all been born in Airdrie.

In 1871, Peter and Isabella McKillop were living with their five children: Duncan, aged 24 years, John, 22 years, Peter, 18 years, Margaret, 16 years, and Arthur, 12 years, at 51 Bell Street, Airdrie. Catherine Quigley, aged 71 years, Peter's mother-in-law, also lived there. All were born in Airdrie, except Catherine and Isabella who were recorded as having been born in Paisley. Peter was recorded as 63 years of age and was a worker in an iron works.

When his son Peter married in October 1871 Peter senior was recorded as an Iron Work Labourer.

Peter died in 1875, leaving Isabella a widow. He was described in the death certificate as havin been an 'engine smith's labourer'. He died in hospital and his normal residence was given as 3 Bell Street, Airdrie. He was aged 60 years. Both of his parents were already dead.

Peter was dead when his son Arthur married in 1883. He was described then as a labourer.

In the 1905 death certificates of his son Duncan and John, Peter McKillop was recorded as a coal miner, and was deceased.

In the 1913 death certificate of Peter McKillop, son of Peter McKillop, the occupation of the elder Peter was recorded as a boilermaker.

When his daughter Catherine, a Sister of Mercy in Liverpool, died in 1927 her death certificate recorded him as "Peter McKillop Ironmonger (Deceased)". 3 5 6 8 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19

  Medical Notes:

The causes of death were certified by Thomas B. Dunn, house surgeon at Glasgow Royal Infirmary.

Duncan McKillop, Peter's son, notified the registrar, Peter Ferguson, at Glasgow on 15 July 1875, of his father's death.


Patrick married Annabella QUIGLEY (DNA Link), daughter of John QUIGLY (DNA Linked) and Catharine LYNAS (DNA Linked), on 8 January 1844 in St Margaret's RC Church, Airdrie, Lanarkshire, Scotland.1 (Annabella QUIGLEY (DNA Link) was born in 1818 in Busby, Lanarkshire, Scotland 6, baptised on 8 November 1818 in St Mirin's RC Chapel, Paisley, Renfrewshire, Scotland and died 19 May 1890 at 7.00 pm in 13 Furnace Row, Newmains, Lanarkshire, Scotland 20.). The cause of her death was valvular heart disease and apoplexy of 15 minutes.

The IGI lists banns of marriage for this couple: Isobella Twigley and Patrick McKellop and is dated December 1843 New Monkland Lanarkshire Scotland.
