   Cause of his death was myocardial degeneration.12

  General Notes:

On 2 July 1778, John ballantyne of Gartness, Bothwell parish Lanarkshire, a single man of 14 years and 9 months, who worked as a pony driver, applied for parish relief on account of being wholly unable to work. He was described in his application as having been born in Bothwell parish, now the son of a widow. He had had rheumatic fever. the inspector granted relief, and the parochial board admitted him to Bothwell, with instructions, on 15 July 1878.

In 1892 and 1894 John Ballantyne was recorded as a coal miner.

In 1895 and 1900 John Ballantyne was recorded as a tube worker.

In 1898 John was recorded as a galvanizer

John and Charlotte Ballantyne were living in New Monkland parish with their five children in 1901, and a boarder called Robert Robertson. John was a general labourer.

In 1907 John Ballantyne was recorded as a tube work labourer.

In 1911 the census for Airdrie recorded John Ballantyne as a machineman in a tube manufacturer's. he and his wife Charlotte were living at 51 Hallcraig Street, Airdrie, with their seven children agaed 3 to 18 years.

John Ballantyne was an engine fitter according to his daughte's marriage certificate in 1913.

When John Ballantyne died in 1928 his death certificate recorded him as aged 64 years and a tube work labourer married to Charlotte White. Both of his parents were deceased.

When Charlotte died in 1947 she was recorded in her death certificate as the "Widow of John Ballantyne Engineer's Labourer".

In his daughter Margaret's 1971 death certificate John Bannatyne was recorded as a "Tube Worker (deceased)". 2 3 8 10 11 12 15 16 17

Robert Ballantyne, John's son, who had been present where his father died, gave notice of his death before the registrar at Airdrie on 3 March 1928. 12


John married Charlotte WHYTE, daughter of William WHYTE and Margaret RUSSELL, on 31 December 1891 in 111 Graham Street, Airdrie, Lanarkshire, Scotland.1 (Charlotte WHYTE was born on 29 June 1865 in Calderbank, Old Monkland Parish, Lanarkshire, Scotland 2 14 18 19 20 21 and died on 24 March 1947 in 8 Gartleahill, Airdrie, Lanarkshire, Scotland.). The cause of her death was cardio-vascular degeneration and cerbral haemorrhage.12


  Marriage Notes:

The marriage took place after publication of banns according to the forms of the Church of Scotland. R. Henderson, Minister of Flowerhill parish, married the couple. The witnesses were Robert Ballantyne and Maggie Whyte.

John Ballantyne was a bachelor, aged 28 years, who worked as a coal miner. He lived at Gartness, by Airdrie. His father was deceased.

Charlotte White was 26 years old and lived at 111 Graham Street, Airdrie. She was a single woman who worked as a domestic servant.

The marriage was registered on 2 January 1892 at Airdrie. 1
