"Register of Births and Baptisms
1807
Born Sept. 19
Thomas son of John Ballantyne & Margaret Clark Clonrae Baptised 27"

The 1841 census for Muirkirk parish in Ayrshire recorded Thomas and Helen Ballintyne and their four children living at "Big House", near the Manse. Thomas was a coal miner. Thomas Ballintyne was in the 30-34 years age group, Helen Ballintyne was also in the 30-34 years age group, Robert Ballintyne was 11 years and Margaret Ballintyne 9 years. These four were born outside of the census county. John Ballintyne 7 years and Andrew Ballintyne 4 years, were born in Ayrshire. Janet, born in 1839, was not included in the family entry.

In 1851 the census recorded Thomas and Robert Ballantyne, both ironstone miners, living in the household of John Lees at 6 Mid Row in Lugar, in the parish of Auchinleck, Ayrshire. His wife and their other children were living in Carlisle Road, Chapelhall in the Holytown district of Bothwell parish Lanarkshire.

When she died in 1861 at the recorded age of 57 years Helen Ballantyne was recorded in her death certificate as married to Thomas Ballantyne coal miner. Thomas, who was not present where she died, was the informant of Helen's death before the registrar at Holytown on 26 February 1861.

When Thomas Ballantine died in 1863, at the recorded age of 57 years, he was recorded as "Coalminer, Widower of Helen Ballantine". Both of his parents were deceased.

When his son Robert died in 1870 Thomas was mistakenly recorded as "Robert Ballantine". His occupation was noted as iron miner. He was deceased. No name at all was noted for the dead man's mother. 5 7 9 10 13 14
