The 1871 census for Buckingham England recorded Andrew Ballantyne, aged 34 years, his wife Ellen Edith [sic], aged 28 years, and their three children living at 6 Chandos Road. Andrew was born in Scotland, Ellen in Great Gaddesden, and the children in Buckingham. Two male boarders, both draper's assistants, and a female domestic servant also lived in the household. Andrew was recorded as a "Draper and Tea Dealer employing 2 assistants".

In 1881 Andrew Ballantyne and his wife were living with their seven children in Bridge Street, Buckingham. Andrew was recorded as a draper and clothier by occupation. A female draper's assistant, Annie Maria Bailey, also lived in the household.
