  General Notes:

The 1841 census for Glasgow St Mungo parish in Lanarkshire recorded Frances [sic] Vally (listed wrongly by the GRO list and Scotland's People website as 'Cally') aged in the 30-34 years age group, living with his (assumed) wife and family at Drygate Street. He was recorded as a journeyman tailor and had been born in Ireland.

A man called 'Frank Valley' [sic] was recorded by the 1851 census for Glasgow St Mungo as head of a household living at 4 Parliamentary Road. He was a tailor by occupation and had been born in Ireland. His age was recorded as 50 years. With him in the household lived his wife, Mary, three daughters and two sons, and two people, James Kenny 21 years, and Joseph Wilson aged 5 years, who were termed lodgers. Joseph Wilson was probably the son of Mary Ann Valley or Vallely, who married a James Wilson the following years in Glasgow.

Francis was recorded as aged 60 years when he died in 1856. No parents' names were recorded for him. He was recorded as a flax mill worker and was married.

Francis Vallely was recorded as a 'tailor deceased' in the marriage certificate of his daughter Helen in 1864 and as a 'master tailor deceased' in the marriage certificate of his son Patrick in the same year.

In 1900 when his daughter Mary Ann died in Port Glasgow, Francis Vallely was recorded in her death certificate as 'tailor deceased'. 1 4 6 7 8
