The 1841 census for Glasgow St Mungo, Lanarkshire, recorded Bridget Vally living with her family in Drygate Street. She was recorded as 10 years of age, the eldest of five children, and had been born in Ireland. She worked in a cotton mill.

In 1851 Bridget Valley was recorded living with her family at 4 Parliamentary Road Glasgow. She had been born in Ireland and was 22 years old. She worked as a spreader in a factory.

Bridget Vallelly was recorded as 30 years of age by the 1861 census for Dundee, Angus. She was living then with her mother, her brother Patrick and her sister Helen, at 24 Mid Wynd. She had been born in County Tyrone, Ireland and worked as a mill worker. ^{1 3 4}
