The 1841 census for Glasgow St Mungo, Lanarkshire, recorded Henry Vally living with his family in Drygate Street. He was recorded as 4 years of age, the joint youngest along with his twin Patrick of five children, and had been born in Ireland.
In 1851 'Helen Valley' was recorded living with 'her' family at 4 Parliamentary Road Glasgow. 'She' had been born in Ireland and was 14 years old. 'She' worked as a factory labourer. This entry is, in all probability, a conflation on the part of the enumerator of Henry Vallely and Helen Vallely. The occupation, place of birth and the age would fit Henry - who is not otherwise included, though he was the informant of his father's death five years later - only the name fits Helen, and perhaps she was 4 years old, as the 1861 census would later suggest she would have been.
Henry notified the registrar of his father's death in 1856 in Springburn.
Henry Vallely was a witness at the marriage of his brother Patrick in Dundee in 1864. 1 2 3 4
