  General Notes:

Bythenia was recorded with her husband and family by the 1880 US Census living at Oak Point Precinct in Columbia County, Oregon. The number of the house, 223, was given by the enumerator. Bythenia was recorded as having been born in Oregon and as aged 28 years. Her job was to keep house. Six children, aged from 8 years down to 1 year, were under her care. Three loggers, possibly lodgers, also lived with the family.

The 1920 US Census recorded Bethnia [sic] Quigley living in Cathlamet with her husband, John, their daughter, Lula, and her husband John Stacey. Bethnia's age was noted as 67 years. Her place of birth was Oregon and her father's was Maine.

The 1930 US Census for Cathlamet recorded Bethenia living at the home of her son Ed Quigley, with his wife and five children. She was a widow and was recorded as aged 78 years.

In 1935 when she died, notice of her death appeared in the Thursday 8th August edition, front page column 1, of the Columba River Sun newspaper in her home town. Topped by the headline

'MRS QUIGLEY, PIONEER, PASSES AWAY' it read:

"Mrs Bathena Quigley, mother of Ed and Len Quigley, passed away at the Ed Quigley home last Thursday and was buried in Cathlamet cemetery Saturday afternoon, Reverend W. W. Head conducting the funeral services.
Mrs Quigley was a resident of Wahkiakum county for the past 66 years, and was born at Westport, Oregon, in 1851.
Besides her sons Ed and Len Quigley, she is survived by a daughter, Mrs Elsie Kennedy, of Portland."

In column 3, under the headline

'CARD OF THANKS' the family offered their thanks. It read:

"We wish to take this means of thanking our friends during the illness and at the death of our beloved mother, Mrs Bathena Quigley. We especially wish to thank members of the Red Men lodge for their aid in conducting the funeral.
Mr and Mrs Leonard Quigley
Mr and Mrs Edgar Quigley"

The Columbia County, Oregon, Marriages 1855-1900 recorded that
'John Quigley and Berthina Bradbury, both of Columbia Co., married 6 Feb 1870 (3 Feb 1870 lic) at the Catholic Church of Immaculate Conception of Portland by J. T. Fierens; wits: John James Olland, Isabelle Quigley.' Pg 189
