In the U.S. Federal Census - 1880 Schedules of Defective, Dependent, and Delinquent Classes, there is an entry for a child of this name under the heading "idiots", an idiot being defined in the schedule as "a person the development of whose mental faculties was arrested in infancy or childhood before coming to maturity".
