In 1855 Jean gave birth to a son, William. In his birth certificate some additional information was recorded about her and his father. Jean was noted as being 21 years of age and having been born in Elderslie, Kilmaurs. William was her second child.

Jean was recorded in the 1861 census as 27 years of age. She was born in Kilmaurs parish. She had four children. Her father in law and her nephew also stayed at her home. She was probably expecting her son, James.

The 1871 census for Kilmaurs recorded Jean George living at 11 High Row, Elderslie, with her husband, their seven children, and her mother. Jean George was aged 37 years. Her birthplace was noted as Kilmaurs.

Jane George, nee Jane McGill, died in Tarbolton in 1877 at the recorded age of 44 years. Her death certificate recorded that she had been married to 'James George blacksmith'. 4 6 9 14

An unnamed female child is listed in the IGI with the same birth and baptism dates as Jean McGill. It is unclear if that child was Jean McGill or her twin. 5

J. F. McGill LCPSG certified the cause of death.

Samuel George, son of the deceased, who had not been present where she died, gave notice of his mother's death before the registrar, John Dunlop, at Tarbolton on 15 August 1877. 6


Jean married James GEORGE (DNA Link), son of Samuel GEORGE (DNA Linked) and Rebecca REID (DNA Linked), on 11 December 1852 in Kilmaurs parish, Ayrshire, Scotland.1 (James GEORGE (DNA Link) was born in 1831 in Crookedholm, Kilmarnock, Ayrshire, Scotland 15 16 and died 27 July 1902 at 5.30 am in Bridge Lodge, Auchincruive, Ayrshire, Scotland 17.). The cause of his death was bulbar paralysis.
