James George was recorded living with his family in the parish of Kilmaurs, where he was born, by the 1871 census. He was aged 9 years and a scholar.

The 1881 census for the village of Whitlett, in the parish of St Quivox, Ayrshire, recorded the widowed James George, living at Blackhouse Crescent with his five sons and two daughters. James George, junior, was the eldest of the sons and daughters. He was a single man of 19 years of age who worked as a coal miner. His birthplace was Kilmaurs, Ayrshire. 3 4


James married Margaret RITCHIE in 1890 in Leith North, Midlothian, Scotland.1 (Margaret RITCHIE was born about 1865.)
