Thomas George was recorded living with his family in the parish of Kilmaurs, Ayrshire, where he was born, by the 1871 census. He was under 1 month old.

The 1881 census for the village of Whitlett, in the parish of St Quivox, Ayrshire, recorded the widowed James George, living at Blackhouse Crescent with his five sons and two daughters. Thomas George, was the third youngest of the sons. He was 10 years of age and was at school. His birthplace was Kilmaurs, Ayrshire.

The 1891 census for the parish of St Quivox in Ayrshire recorded Thomas George, aged 20 years, living in his father's home at Bridge Lodge. He was an agricultural labourer and had been born at Kilmaurs. He was unmarried.

In 1901 the census recorded Thomas, maggie and James George living at 18 Officers Quarters in Shettleston, where Thomas was a prison guard. ^{1 3 4 5}
