  General Notes:

Mary Ann was 7 years old in the family entry of the 1861 census for the parish of Kilmaurs, Ayrshire.

The 1871 census for Kilmarnock recorded a 16 year old girl called Mary Ann George working as a general domestic servant in the household of the Rev. James B. Hamilton, in the Manse in London Road, Kilmarnock. The Rev. Hamilton was Minister of the First Charge Low Church Parish Kilmaurs. In the household there was one other servant, Ellen Campbell, as well as the minister's wife, Jessie, and their two adult children, John and Mary Ann. Mary Ann George was noted as being unmarried and having been born in Elderslie.

In 1881 the census for St Quivox parish, Ayrshire, recorded Mary Ann Parker, her husband, and their three children living on High Road. Mary Ann was noted as 27 years of age and born in Kilmaurs parish in Ayrshire. 4


Maryann married Henry PARKER, son of James PARKER and Susanna THOMSON, 31 December 1874 (reg. 1875) in Annbank, Tarbolton, Ayrshire, Scotland.1 (Henry PARKER was born in 1853 in Dalry, Ayrshire, Scotland 1 4.)


  Marriage Notes:

The marriage took place after banns according to the forms of the Established Church of Scotland. The minister who officiated was George McConnachie. The witnesses were Hugh Skimmins and Jane George.

Henry Parker, a bachelor, was 21 years old and resident at Coylton. He worked as a coal miner. Henry's mother was deceased.

Mary Ann George was recorded as 'a coal miner's daughter'. She was a spinster and aged 21 years. She resided at Annbank Tarbolton.

The marriage was registered on January 2 1875, John Dunlop being the signing registrar. 1
