Mary Felly [sic] was recorded as 21 years of age by the 1871 census for Lesmahagow.

Mary Feely was the informant of the death of her husband, Robert, at Stonehouse in 1880. She made her X mark.

In 1881 the census for Lesmahagow recorded a widow, Mary H. Feely, with her two sons, a nephew called John Fitzpatrick, aged 3 years and born in Newmains, and an English born servant, Jean Carrie, aged 15 years, all living in Turfholm Village. Mary was recorded as 31 years of age, and had been born in Lesmahagow. She was a hawker of crockery.

The 1891 census for Stonehouse recorded James Kane, Mary's second husband, as head of a household living at Back House, Townhead Street, that comprised himself, his wife, Mary, her son, Robert, two daughters of James and Mary, and three visitors, Ann, Bella and Jane Trotter. Mary Kane was recorded as born in Lesmahagow, Lanarkshire, and as being 38 years of age. Her two daughters by James were recorded as aged 8 years and 5 years, and Robert Feelie, son of her first marriage, was noted as 12 years of age.

Mary Kane died in 1932. Her death certificate recorded her as 'widow of 1st Robert Feelie labourer 2nd James Kane labourer'. Her recorded age at death was 81 years. Her parents were deceased. The informant of the death was Mary's son in law, and some of the information, as happens not uncommonly, was incorrect. Her father's name was noted as 'William Henrie' and her mother's as 'Margaret Collins', when in fact her parents were Michael Henry or Henrie and Agnes McFadyen, although Agnes was known sometimes as Margaret. 4 5 6 7 9
