  General Notes:

Ann Crawford's brother, Robert Feely, who made his X mark, and who had been present where her death occurred, was the informant of her death at Lesmahagow on 22 February 1870.

Robert Felly [sic] was recorded as 23 years old by the 1871 census for Lesmahagow.

Robert Feely's son, also Robert, was born in 1879, and it was his father who gave notice of his birth before the registrar at Hamilton, M. Hamilton, on 14 July 1879 and made his X mark.His occupation was noted as general labourer.

Robert Feely died in 1880 at Stonehouse. His death certificate recorded his age as 31 years and his occupation as general labourer. He was survived by his wife Mary. His father was deceased.

In 1905 when Robert Feelie's son, also of that name, married Agnes McNaughton in Hamilton, Robert Feelie senior was recorded as a 'general hawker deceased'. 4 6 7 8 9

The causes of death were certified by Alexander Reid, surgeon.

Mary Feely, widow of the deceased, gave notice of his death before the registrar, M. Hamilton, at Stonehouse on 25 November 1880 and made her X mark. 4


Robert married Mary HENRY, daughter of Michael HENRY and Agnes McFADZEAN, on 10 July 1871 in RC Chapel, Strathaven, Lanarkshire, Scotland.1 2 (Mary HENRY was born in 1850 in Lesmahagow, Lanarkshire, Scotland 7 10 11 and died 9 September 1932 at 7.00 pm in 33 Grieve Street, Dunfermline, Fife, Scotland 4 6 10 12.). The cause of her death was bruise of left hip and senility.4


  Marriage Notes:

The couple were married according to the rites and forms f the Roman Catholic Church by Antony Foxwell RCC. Simon Rooney and Mary Dale were the witnesses.

Robert Feely, who made his X mark, was an earthenware hawker. He was unmarried, aged 23 years, and resident at Turfholm, Lesmahagow.

Mary Henry was an unmarried woman, aged 20 years, who worked as a domestic servant. Her address was the same as that of the groom. She too made her X mark.

The marriage was registered at Strathaven on 31 July, John Barrie being the signing registrar. 2
