  General Notes:

The 1851 census for Hamilton recorded John Feely as head of a household living at 93 Muir Street that comprised his wife Roseanne, his daughter Mary, and two granddaughters Sarah and Margaret. John was recorded as 68 years of age and had been born in Ireland. He was a labourer.

John was an agricultural labourer, according to the marriage certificate of his daughter Rosa in 1855.

In 1860 John's daughter/granddaughter Mary was married. John was recorded in her marriage certificate as her father and as a labourer.

The 1861 census recorded a 'John Feaily' as head of his household at 23 Dyke Row in the parish of Carluke, Lanarkshire. He was aged 84 years and had formerly been a labourer. He had been born in Ireland. The dwelling where he lived had two or more windowed rooms. As well as John and his wife, four other adults lived there.

When John died in 1861 he was recorded in his death certificate as a "Farm Labourer (married to Rosie Kinnichen)". His age was recorded as 87 years. Both of his parents were dead.

When she died in 1863, Rosa Kinnighan was recorded as "Widow of John Feely Farm labourer".

John's son, James, died at Lesmahagow in 1873. In his death certificate John was recorded as his father and as deceased. His occupation was noted as 'labourer'. 1 2 4 5 6

No medical person attended John.

The informant of John's death before John Fraser, registrar, at Carluke on 27 November 1861 was his daughter's husband, George 'Hughtison', as he signed the register, of Grammar School Square, Hamilton, who had been present where John's death occurred. 3


John married Rosa KINNIGHAN. (Rosa KINNIGHAN was born about 1785 in Ireland 2 and died 11 October 1863 at 8.30 pm in Townhead Street, Hamilton, Lanarkshire, Scotland.). The cause of her death was old age.3
