Mary Feely was recorded by the 1851 census for Hamilton living at 93 Muir Street. She was designated by the enumerator as the daughter of John Feely and Roseanne Feely. She was unmarried and aged 26 years. She worked as a sewer and had been born in Ireland.

In 1860 in her marriage certificate Mary was recorded as the daughter of John and Rosie Feely. 1 2


Mary married James DOCHERTY, son of John DOCHERTY and Elizabeth DUDZIE, on 11 February 1860 in Catholic Church, Carluke, Lanarkshire, Scotland.1 (James DOCHERTY was born in 1832 1.)


  Marriage Notes:

The marriage was celebrated according to the rites and forms of the Roman Catholic Church. The celebrant was J. McCay priest at Carluke. The witnesses were John McPeat and M. McKay who made an X mark.

The groom was James Docherty aged 27 years. He was resident at Carluke and was unmarried. He worked as a drainer. He made his X mark. His father was deceased.

Mary Pheely [sic] was also unmarried and was aged 28 years. She too was resident at Carluke. She was an outdoor worker. She made her X mark.

The marriage was registered at Carluke on 18 February 1860, John Fraser being the signing registrar. 1
