   Other names for Joseph were McFADDIN, Joseph,5 McFADGEAN, Joseph,4 McFADYEN, Joseph 6 and McFADZEN, Joseph.2

  General Notes:

Joseph McFaddin, his wife and 3 children (though it does not state this) were recorded by the 1841 census living in Muirkirk, Ayrshire, at an address called 'Old Linky-Burn'. The two adults were born in Ireland, the three children in Ayrshire. Joseph's age was recorded as 36 years (not the routine 1841 pattern) and he was a labourer by occupation.

In 1851 the census returns for lesmahagow recorded the McFadgean family living in Burnfoot. Joseph McFadgean was the head of a household that consisted of his wife, 4 children and 1 nephew, James McFadgean aged 26 years, a coal miner, unmarried, and born in Kilmarnock. Joseph McFadgean was recorded as 46 years of age, a coal miner, born in Ireland.

Joseph McFadzean was a coalminer according to the death certificate of his daughter Agnes in 1859.

The 1861 census for Auchenheath, Lesmahagow recorded Joseph McFadzean as head of a household at Newhouses. His wife and son lived with him. By occupation he was a labourer (mineral). He was aged 61 years and had been born in Ireland.

Joseph McFadzean died in 1867 at the recorded age of 84 years. His death certificate also recorded he was a coal miner and married to Mary Fisher. Only his father's name was noted; no mother's name was recorded.

In 1886 Joseph McFadyen's wife Mary died. In her death certificate he was recorded as being a general labourer. He had predeceased her. 1 2 3 4 5

  Medical Notes:

Joseph McFadzen, son of the deceased who was present, gave notice of his father's death before the registrar, Duncan Campbell, at Bankhead Lesmahagow on 13 August 1867. 2


Joseph married Mary FISHER, daughter of Samuel FISHER and Margaret JOHNSTON. (Mary FISHER was born in 1807 in Ireland 4 5 6 7 and died 21 August 1886 at 6.00 am in Auchenheath, Lesmahagow, Lanarkshire, Scotland 6.). The cause of her death was general debility over 4 years.2
