The census for 1861 for Lesmahagow recorded Michael Hendry living with his daughter Mary as a lodger in New Town with a widow Esther Wood and her servant John McCormick. Michael was a widower aged 34 years and had been born in Ireland. He was a cotton weaver.

Michael Hendry was the informant of the death of his wife Agnes at Lesmahagow in 1859. He made his X mark.
