Note: There is a marked discrepancy between the date of birth of Arthur Quigley as noted here and in his birth certificate.

The 1871 census recorded Arthur Tweedley aged 9 years. He was a scholar and living in Galston, Ayrshire, at Knowehead Rows with his parents, brothers, and sisters. Galston was the town where he had been born.

Arthur was recorded, aged 19 years, in the 1881 census, as a coal miner. He was single and lived with his family in the parish of Dalziel, Lanarkshire, at 22 Dalziel Street. His birthplace was Galston, Ayrshire.

It was Arthur Quigley, son of the deceased and present where the death occurred, who notified the registrar of Peter Quigley's death in 1881 at Motherwell.

At his marriage in 1887, Arthur was a warehouse packer and resided at 12 Rutherglen Road Glasgow. In his marriage certificate his name was recorded as Tweedley, as was his father, Peter's. This also happened with his mother's name and the surnames on Adelina's birth certificate.

Arthur signed the register at the birth of his daughter, Adelina, in 1888. He was recorded there as a cloth warehouse packer. His address was 18 Grove Street Glasgow.

In 1891 Arthur Tweedly gave notice of the birth of his son Arthur. The birth certificate recorded that he was a warehouse packer and had been present where the birth occurred. The child was born at 23 Gayfield Street Glasgow.

On 31 July 1894, Arthur signed the birth register at Dalziel registry office for his daughter, Harriet Jane, who was also given the patronymic, McArthur, as well as her surname. He was a railway porter at this time.

In 1918, in his son, Arthur's marriage certificate, Arthur was recorded as an engineer's assistant.

In the death certificate of his wife, Mary Gracie, in 1923, Arthur was recorded as an engineer's machinist.

When his son Arthur married in 1924 Arthur Tweedly was again recorded as an engineer's machinist.

Arthur died in Belvidere Hospital in 1941. His death certificate recorded his usual residence as 83 West Street Glasgow. His biographical details were recorded as follows:
"Arthur Tweedly (formerly Arthur Quigley) Sheet Iron Store Keeper Widower of 1st Mary Gracie 2nd Sarah Dougan or Degan or Ross". His age was recorded as 78 years - he was in fact 79 years old at death. Both of his parents were deceased. 3 4 5 7 8 9 11 12 13

  Medical Notes:

John S. Aitchison MB ChB certified the causes of death.

Harriet Reid, of 34 Bank Street Paisley, daughter of the deceased man, gave notice of his death before the registrar at Glasgow on 3 March 1941. 5
