   Cause of her death was pulmonary tuberculosis.4

   Other names for Mary were GRACIE, Mary,1 5 6 7 GRACIE, Mary Lightbody,4 TWEEDLEY, Mary,1 TWEEDLY, Mary 5 6 and TWEEDLY, Mary Lightbody.4

  General Notes:

John Gracey was the informant of his daughter Mary's birth. He notified the registrar at Auchinleck on 15 May 1858 and made his X mark. His occupation was recorded as pit labourer.

In the 1879 marriage of Mary Teedly in Hamilton, one of the witnesses was recorded as Mary Gracey. It may have been this woman. Mary was Arthur's sister.

When Mary Lightbody Gracie or Tweedly died in 1923 her death certificate recorded her as "Married to Arthur Tweedly, Engineer's Machinist". She was recorded as 62 years old, but was in fact a little older than that. Both of her parents were deceased. 2 3 4

Arthur Tweedly who was present where Mary's death occurred, gave notice of his mother's death before the registrar at Paisley on 19 March 1923. 4


Mary married Arthur QUIGLEY, son of Patrick QUIGLY (DNA Linked) and Margaret GEORGE (DNA Linked), on 8 July 1887 in 4 Buckingham Street, Hillhead, Glasgow, Scotland.1 (Arthur QUIGLEY was born 22 June 1862 at 2.30 pm in Holmes Colliery, Galston, Ayrshire, Scotland 8 9, baptised on 16 August 1862 in St Joseph's RC Parish, Kilmarnock, Scotland 10 and died 2 March 1941 at 3.15 pm in Belvidere Hospital, Glasgow, Scotland.). The cause of his death was cerebral thrombosis and broncho pneumonia.4


  Marriage Notes:

The marriage was conducted according to the forms of the Free Church of Scotland. The minister was James Wallace, minister of the Free Church of Scotland. The witnesses were Dawson Smith and Helen Murray.

The groom, Arthur Tweedley, aged 25 years, was an unmarried man, working as a warehouse packer. His usual residence was 12 Rutherglen Road, Glasgow. His father, Peter Tweedley, was dead, but Margaret, his mother, was still alive.

The bride was Mary Gracie, an unmarried woman of 26 years, a domestic servant. Both her parents were deceased. It appears from the address that the marriage was solemnised at the house where Mary worked.

The marriage was registered at Partick on 11 Jult 1887.
