Catherine McNarney was recorded in 1861 by the census of that year. She lived in Old Monkland parish, with her family: two parents and seven children including herself, at 1 Clarkson's 2nd Land, Coatdyke, a dwelling which had two rooms with windows. She was recorded as being 13 years old and a scholar. Her birthplace was noted as Airdrie.

The 1871 census recorded James and Catherine Cavanagh living in no. 44 Greenend of Calder in the parish of Garturk in Old Monkland. The house had only one of the rooms with a window. They had two children, Patrick and Mary. Catherine was aged 22 years, and was recorded as born in Airdrie.

The 1881 census for the parish of Bothwell, recorded the Cavanagh family living at no 15 New Row, Thankerton. The parents, James and Catherine were 33 years and 31 years old respectively. The children were Patrick, 13 years, Mary, 10 years, and Elizabeth aged 5 years. Patrick and his father were coal miners. They were recorded as born in Bothwell parish. Catherine was born in Airdrie, and Mary and Elizabeth in Old Monkland.

In 1891, Catherine was living in Blantyre, according to the census of that year, with her husband, James, and her son, Patrick, both coal miners, at 29 Hall St. She was aged 42 years. She was born in Airdrie. Her house had two rooms with windows. At 31 Hall Street, Blantyre, near to Catherine's family, the 1891 census recorded Catherine's brother, John, and their mother, 'Catherine McColville', living, also, in a house with two rooms windowed.

In 1901 the census for Blantyre recorded Catherine living with her husband, James, and a young boarder called Francis Torley. Her age was recorded as 52 years and her birthplace as Airdrie.

Catherine died in 1909, on 29 March. The death certificate recorded her as 58 years old at the time of death. ^{4 6 7 15 16}

Catherine's death was notified to James Brown, the registrar on the day of her death by her son Patrick Cavanagh who, the certificate says, had been present where the death occurred. ¹⁶

Catherine married James CAVANAGH, son of James CAVANAGH and Mary SMITH, on 24 November 1865 in St Margaret's RC Church, Airdrie, Lanarkshire, Scotland.^{1 2} (James CAVANAGH was born on 18 September 1845 in Bothwell parish, Lanarkshire, Scotland ⁴, baptised on 21 September 1845 in St Margaret's RC Church, Airdrie, Lanarkshire, Scotland ¹⁷ and died 1 August 1913 at 5.15 am Friday in 54 Stonefield Road, Blantyre, Lanarkshire, Scotland ¹⁸.). The cause of his death was Bronchitis; myocarditis and cardiac failure.

The marriage took place in St Margaret's RC Church in Airdrie and was celebrated according to the rites and forms of the Roman Catholic Church, The celebrant was Father Michael O'Keeffe CC. The witnesses were John Owens & Ellen Tippen.

James Cavanagh, the groom was aged 18 years at the time of the wedding, and his occupation was that of iron miner. His usual residence was in Dunipace parish, Stirlingshire. Both of his parents were deceased at the time of his marriage.

The bride, Catherine, was aged 16 years and her occupation was 'factory hand'. She was usually resident in Coatdyke, in the parish of Old Monkland.

The marriage was registered in the Middle district of Old Monkland. ¹⁹
