  General Notes:

Patrick gave notice of his daughter, Eliza's birth in 1856 at 65 Aitchison Street, Airdrie. He had been present where the birth took place, and notified the registrar at Airdrie, William Landless, on 15 August 1856, making his X mark. His occupation was recorded as coal miner.

The birth certificate of Patrick's son, Francis, in 1859, recorded him as a coal miner. He made his X mark when informing the registrar of the birth. The family were living at 65 Aitchison Street, Airdrie when Francis was born.

In 1861 the census for Coatdyke, Old Monkland, recorded Patrick McNarney as head of a household comprising his wife and their seven children, living at 1 Clarkson's 2nd Land. Patrick was recorded as 43 years of age, and a coal miner. His birthplace was Ireland. Their home had two rooms with one or more windows.

In 1862 Patrick's daughter, Sarah, married in Campsie, Stirlingshire. Patrick McNarnie, her father, was recorded in her marriage certificate as a coal miner.

Patrick's son, and namesake, died in a colliery accident in April 1865. Patrick, senior, was the informant of his son's death before the registrar. He was noted in the his son's death certificate as a collier.

Patrick's occupation was that of coal miner according to his daughter Catherine's marriage certificate in 1865.

Similarly in 1866, in the marriage lines of his son Michael, Patrick was again recorded as a coal miner.

According to the 1871 census Patrick and his family were living in Gartsherrie in Old Monkland Parish, in the hamlet of Coatdyke. His address was 1 Clarkson's Land. The house had at least one room with a window. Living there were Patrick, his wife, his sons, John and Francis, and his daughter, Elizabeth. Five other family groups lived at 1 Clarkson's Land, twenty six individuals in all. Patrick was described as pauper, having no visible means of support, and was aged 57 years. He was born in Ireland.

Patrick's own death certificate in 1877 recorded him as 'widower of Catherine McConville' although she did not in fact die till twenty years later. He was a coal miner and still resident at Clarkson's Land, Coatdyke. His age was noted as 57 years. His parentage was recorded as 'not known'.

In the marriage certificate of his daughter Elizabeth in 1878, Patrick McAnerney was recorded as a 'collier deceased'.

In 1885 Patrick's son, Francis, died. In his son's death certificate, Patrick was recorded as 'coal miner deceased'.

In the death certificate of his daughter Sarah Jane in 1893, Patrick was recorded as a 'coal miner deceased'. The same description of him was recorded in the death certificate of his daughter Elizabeth in 1898 and in that of his son John in 1899. His daughter Catherine's death certificate, too, described him in 1909 as 'coal miner, deceased'.

Patrick's son Michael died in 1914. Patrick was deceased, as Michael's death certificate recorded, and it recorded once more that he had been a coal miner. 3 10 11 12 13 14 15

MCINAIRNIE: ORIGIN AND VARIANTS

This surname originates in Irish gaelic culture as
Mac an Airchinnigh
meaning 'son of the erenagh ( steward of the church lands)'
or in a shorter form
Mac an Airchinn or Mac an Oirchin.
The clan is associated with County Clare, Ireland.

In the anglicised versions of the name it may begin with Mc or Mac or O' or nothing. The letter following the prefix may be 'a' 'e' 'i' or the consonants 'k' or 'n'. 16

Patrick's son, Michael, was the informant of his father's death and signed the register. The registrar, Andrew Baird, issued the death certificate from the Eastern District of Old Monkland.


Patrick married Catherine McCONVILL, daughter of John McCONVILLE and Sarah HAMMILL, on 5 January 1836 in Clonallon RC parish, Newry And Mourne, County Down, Ireland.1 (Catherine McCONVILL was born about 1815 in Ireland 3 4 17 and died 10 March 1898 at 3.00 pm in 12 Bogside Row, Easterhouse, Lanarkshire, Scotland.). The cause of her death was Cardiac failure and congestion of the lungs over 5 days.
