In 1861 the census for Old Monkland recorded Patrick McNarney. He was second eldest of the children in his family and was aged 19 years at that time. He was born in Ireland. Like his father and older brother, he worked as a coal miner.

Patrick , who was a collier, died in a pit accident in 1865 when a roof gave way while he was at work. He was recorded as 23 years of age, and resided at Coatdyke. He was single. 1 3

  Medical Notes:

Patrick was killed by a fall of coals from the roof of the pit where he was working.

His father, also Patrick, notified the registrar at Old Monkland, James Burden, of his son's death, on 5 April 1865, and made his X mark in the register.
