  General Notes:

The 1851 census for Old Monkland recorded Susan McNairn as 30 years of age. She lived there with her husband and six children aged from 1 year to 11 years.

In her daughter Susan's 1855 birth certificate, Susan Nearn (sic) was described as being 37 years of age and a native of County Sligo, Ireland. Susan was her 7th lawful child 3

Susan married Robert McINAIRNEY, son of James McINAIRN and Margaret TORRANCE, on 4 Aug 1844 in Old Monkland Or Airdrie, Lanarkshire, Scotland. (Robert McINAIRNEY was born about 1820 in County Donegal, Ireland 3 and died 11 January 1869 at 9.10 pm in Greenend of Calder, Old Monkland, Lanarkshire, Scotland.). The cause of his death was chronic bronchitis of some years' duration, and disease of the heart and dropsy for some months.


  Marriage Notes:

The IGI records this marriage of 1844 as having been in Old Monkland. The birth certificate [RDS 652/3 No 139 Old Monkland 1855] of their daughter Susan recorded the place of marriage as Airdrie. Possibly the marriage took place in St Margaret's Airdrie, and the banns were called in Old Monkland.

Susan next married William RUSSEL, son of William RUSSELL and Marion BENNY.1 2 (William RUSSEL was born on 5 May 1770 4, christened on 6 May 1770 in Clackmannan parish, Clackmannanshire, Scotland 4 and died before 13 Feb 1861 5.)


  Marriage Notes:

"Thomas Menzies was the second son of Thomas Menzies of Pitfoddels and Marion Reid, his spouse, and was admitted a burgess of the burgh on 26th June, 1548. He married Margaret Ogilvie, eldest sister and heiress of Alexander Ogilvie of Durn, the grandson of Sir William Ogilvie of Stratherne, and in this way, on his brother-in-law's death without issue, he became laird of Durn, in Banffshire."
