William was the informant of his father's death before the registrar, Andrew Baird, at Coatdyke on 12 January 1869.

  Research Notes:

William may be one of the children mentioned by his father in his sister Susan's birth certificate in 1855. More work needs done to clear this up.

William married Bridget FLANIGAN.¹ (Bridget FLANIGAN was born about 1805.)

"William Burnett of Sauchen, M.A. (Marischal College before 1604); adm. before 3rd Dec. 1607; still min. in 1638. He acquired the lands of Sauchen, Cairnday, etc., by an apprising. He was a most litigious person, and many actions at his instance are recorded in the Aberdeen Sheriff Court Books. He marr. Catherine, daugh. of James Reid, min. of Banchory-Ternan, and had issue Bessie, contracted in marriage on 10th Feb. 1642, to Thomas, eldest son of the second marriage of Sir Thomas Burnett of Leys, Bart., whom failing, William, whom failing, James, also sons of said Sir Thomas (she marr. 1648 the said Thomas); Helen, also contracted to marry the said Burnetts, in of the failure of her sister (marr. George, fifth son of Sir Thomas Gordon of Cluny); a daugh. (marr. Ludovic Gordon, min. of Aboyne). [Burnetts of Leys, 257; Aberdeen sas., ii. 106, iv. 387.]"

The wife of Ludovic Gordon mentioned above is more likely to have been a granddaughter of William Burnett, rather than his daughter. Indeed, The Family of Burnett names her as the daughter of Thomas Burnett of Sauchen, stating also that Bessie and Helen were the only two daughters of this minister. ^{1 3}
