James McNairn was a small farmer, according to the death certificate of his son Robert in 1869. James was deceased by that time.

James married Margaret TORRANCE. (Margaret TORRANCE was born about 1800 and died before 11 Jan 1869.)

James next married Susan McNAIRN, daughter of Robert McINAIRNEY and Susan MURPHY.^{1 2} (Susan McNAIRN was born about 1850 ³.)

  Marriage Notes:

"He (William Burnett) marr. Catherine, daugh. of James Reid, min. of Banchory-Ternan, and had issue Bessie, contracted in marriage on 10th Feb. 1642, to Thomas, eldest son of the second marriage of Sir Thomas Burnett of Leys, Bart., whom failing, William, whom failing, James, also sons of said Sir Thomas (she marr. 1648 the said Thomas)"
