  Research Notes:

GEORGE'S AGE AND BIRTHPLACE

George, according to the dates we have, was born about six weeks before his parents' marriage. In the batch number for the christening records where George's birth was recorded in Edinburgh, there are six Tait births, but only George's under the surname Haimes. It seems probable that his mother gave birth in a part of the country where there were family members who could assist her. Then six weeks after his birth, she and his father married in Gladsmuir. This may never have been told to George. He may have thought he had been born in Gladsmuir, and that he was slightly younger than he in fact was.

George married Jane DEANS, daughter of John DEANS and Alison RAMSAY, on 10 November 1854 in Prestonkirk, East Lothian, Scotland. (Jane DEANS was born on 24 March 1828 in Prestonpans, East Lothian, Scotland 5, baptised on 13 April 1828 in Prestonpans, East Lothian, Scotland and died 30 May 1897 at 4.00 pm in 13 High Street, Haddington, East Lothian, Scotland 3.). The cause of her death was broncho-pneumonia over 7 days.
