  General Notes:

Robert Ballantine's son Thomas was the informant of his death before the registrar at Shotts on 25 June 1870. Thomas was recorded as "Eldest Son Inmate Present"on the death certificate.

The 1891 census recorded Thomas Ballantyne, a 31 year old coal miner, living at Greenhead in the parish of Kinglassie, Fife. With him lived his wife Elizabeth, aged 25 years and his daughters Elizabeth, Barbara and Agnes, all except Elizabeth, recorded as born in Kinglassie parish. Elizabeth was recorded as born in Markinch parish.Thomas was a coal miner.

The census of 1901 recorded the family living at 26 James Street, Buckhaven, Fife. They were Thomas Ballantyne 41 years, Elizabeth Ballantyne 35 years, Elizabeth Ballantyne 13 years, Barbara Ballantyne 11 years, Agnes Ballantyne 10 years, Mary Ballantyne 7 years, Robert Ballantyne 3 years, and Cecilia Ballantyne 11 Days. the eldest three girls and their mother were recorded as born in Kinglassie parish, the younger ones as in Buckhaven parish. Thomas was born in Chapelhall. He was a coal miner.

Thomas Ballantyne, his wife Elizabeth and their five children, Agnes, Mary, Robert, Cecilia and John, were recorded by the 1911 census living at 29 Brown Street, Buckhaven in Fife. Thomas was a Coal Miner (Reddsman). he had been born in Bothwell parish, Lanarkshire; his wife and children were Fife-born. Agnes was a flax-mill opertaive and Mary was a linen weaver.

Elizabeth Clark, married to Thomas Ballantyne coalminer, died in 1924. 5 7 8 9 10


Thomas married Elizabeth CLARK, daughter of John CLARK and Janet GILMOUR, on 31 December 1884 in Cluny Lye, Kinglassie, Fife, Scotland.1 (Elizabeth CLARK was born on 7 September 1865 in Cluny Bridge, Kinglassie, Fife, Scotland 7 8 9 11 and died on 2 January 1924 in Buckhaven, Fife, Scotland.). The cause of her death was carcinoma of the breast over 1 year.


  Marriage Notes:

The marriage was celebrated on the last day of 1884 according to the forms of the Church of Scotland. William Thompson, Minister at Kinglassie, was the officiant. The witnesses were James Greenwood and Alexa G. Clark.

Thomas Ballantyne was a coal miner, aged 25 years, of Cluny Lye. His father was deceased.

Elizabeth Clark, also of Cluny Lye, was a domestic servant aged 19 years.

Both parties were single.

The marriage was registered on 2 January 1885. 1
