  General Notes:

Margaret McConchy was recorded by the 1871 census living at Easter Cardowan in the Shettleston district of Barony parish, Glasgow. She was recorded as 29 years of age and her birthplace was County Armagh, Ireland. Her two children were aged 3 years and 3 months.

Margaret McConachy was recorded by the 1881 census living at No 10 Greenhill Village in the parish of Shotts with her husband and five children. Her recorded age was 39 years and she was Irish by birth.

In the 1891 census for Cleland, parish of Shotts, Margaret McConnaghy, a widow, and her six unmarried children, of whom Edward was the eldest, were recorded living with her widowed younger brother John Creaney and his four children. Margaret worked as 'housekeeper', and her age was recorded as 47 years. Her birthplace was Ireland. Her 1891 address was 162 Omoa Square, Cleland. According to her children's ages and places of birth, Margaret had been in Scotland for at least 20 years, and in Cleland for a little less.

Margaret died in 1901. Her death certificate recorded her as 'widow of Michael McConnachie labourer' and her age as 56 years. This age is probably a bit low. Margaret's father was recorded as deceased and no mother's name was recorded at all. 5 12

It was the practice after statutory registration began in Scotland to note the date and place of marriage of the parents of legitimate children. The assorted selection of marriage dates below are from Michael's information when registering his children's birth (the actual date was 5 January 1867):

1870 - the birth certificate of their son Edward at Shettleston recorded their marriage as 25 December 1864 in Ireland. His father Michael was the informant.

1973 - Son Michael was born. His father Michael notified the registrar of his birth. His parents' marriage was recorded as '1866 December at Lurgan County Armagh'.

1875 - The birth certificate of their son Henry in 1875 at Shotts parish recorded this couple's marriage as 'married December 1866 at Lurgan County Armagh'. Michael, the father of the child, was the informant.

1878 - brought the birth of son Arthur. Michael was once more the informant. This time their marriage was described as 'married January 6th Lurgan County Armagh'.

1881 - their daughter Margaret's birth was registered by her father. The certificate recorded the couple as 'm 1868 January 6 Lurgan Co Armagh'.

1885 - Son Bernard was born and Michael, his father, was the informant. The marriage of Bernard's parents was noted as '1867 Jan 6 Lurgan Co Armagh'.
