  General Notes:

When Henry was born in 1875 it was his father Michael who notified the registrar, William Paterson, at Shotts on 3 May 1875 and made his X mark.

In 1881 the census recorded Henry McConachy living at No 10 Greenhill Village in the parish of Shotts, the parish where he had been born. He was aged 6 years and was a scholar.

Henry McConnaghy was aged 15 years and was employed as a coal miner according to the 1891 census. He had been born in Shotts parish.

In 1898 a 'Henry McConaghy' was a witness at the marriage of Michael McConaghy [sic] and Sarah Lafferty in Cleland. It was most probably this Henry.

Henry McConachie's daughter, Mary Ann, was born in early 1901 and Henry, who had been present, was the informant for her birth before the registrar, William Richard, at Holytown on 7 February 1901. He was recorded as being a coalminer. In addition the date and place of his marriage was noted as 29 December 1899 at Cleland in the parish of Shotts.

The 1901 census for the parish of Holytown in Lanarkshire recorded Henry McConnaghie, aged 25 years and working as a coal miner, as head of a household living at Mason's Land Holytown. Henry had been born in Greenhill in Shotts parish. The household consisted of himself, his wife Mary, their baby daughter Mary Ann, and one visitor and one boarder: Hannah Hart, his sister in law, aged 10 years, born in Cleland in Shotts parish, and a boarder, his youngest brother, Bernard McConnaghie, aged 16 years, born in Greenhill Shotts and working as a coal miner.

Henry died in 1904 at the age of 28 years. 3 4 5 6 7 8


Henry married Mary HART on 29 December 1899 in RC Chapel, Cleland, Lanarkshire, Scotland. (Mary HART was born 1 August 1882 at 11.00 pm in Omoa Square, Cleland, Lanarkshire, Scotland 4 9 10 and died on 19 February 1950 in 5 Chapel Street, Cleland, Shotts parish, Lanarkshire, Scotland 11.). The cause of her death was carcinoma of the stomach and liver.


  Marriage Notes:

The marriage was celebrated, after banns, according to the rites and forms of the Roman Catholic Church. The priest was Father Patrick Hackett. The witnesses were Henry Creaney and Jane Teerley.

Henry McConnaghie was an unmarried man of 24 years, who worked as a coal miner. His address was noted as McAulay's Buildings, Cleland, West District of Shotts. Henry's father, Michael, was deceased.

Mary Hart was unmarried, and just 18 years old. She was a brickfield worker, of Wyndedge, West District of Shotts. Her parents, Michael Hart, a coal miner, and Mary Ann Connor were alive.

The marriage was registered on 1 January 1900, William Spence being the registrar.
