  General Notes:

Edward's father Michael notified the registrar at Shettleston, Andrew Garrard, on 16 August 1870 of his son's birth. He made his X mark.

In 1871 the census recorded Edward McConchy as 3 months old. He was living with his parents and older brother John at Easter Cardowan in the Shettleston district of Barony parish, Glasgow. He had been born in Scotland.

In 1881 Edward McConachy was recorded by the census aged 11 years. He was a scholar, and his birthplace was noted as 'Lanarkshire, Scotland'.

Edward McConnaghy was employed as a coal miner in 1891 when the census was taken. He was aged 20 years, unmarried, and the eldest of Margaret's children living with her then. He had been born in Cardowan, Lanarkshire.

The 1901 census for Cleland in Lanarkshire, parts of Shotts parish Western District, recorded Edward McConnaghie as head of the household living in Mahon's Buildings. With him lived his wife and his three young children. Edward was recorded as 30 years of age and worked as a coal hewer. He had been born in Cleland.

In 1904 in his daughter Mary's birth certificate he was recorded as a coal miner. He signed her birth entry, having been present where she was born, before William McGill, registrar on February 18 1904 at Cleland.

Edward's mother died in 1910 and he was the informant of her death at Salsburgh, Shotts. His address then was noted as Warrington Place Cleland.

When Annie McConnachie died in 1944 she was recorded as being 73 years of age and married to Edward McConnachie coal miner (hewer). Edward was the informant of her death.

In 1948 when Edward died, his death certificate recorded him as 'Edward McConnachie coalminer (retired) widower of Anne Reilly'. His recorded age was 78 years. Both of his parents were deceased. 3 4 5 6 7 8

Margaret Currie, daughter of the deceased, of 85 Chapel Street, Cleland, informed the registrar, A. Johnston, at Cleland on 27 December 1948 of her father's death.


Edward married Annie REILLY on 18 April 1895 in St Mirin's RC Chapel, Paisley, Renfrewshire, Scotland.1 (Annie REILLY was born in 1869 in Crosslee, Renfrewshire, Scotland 5 and died 8 August 1944 at 11.50 pm in 85 Chapel Street, Cleland, Lanarkshire, Scotland 8.). The cause of her death was cardio vascular degeneration.


  Marriage Notes:

The priest who married the couple according to Roman Catholic rites was John McDonald. John Creaney and Jane Reilly were witnesses.

Edward was aged 23 years and of Crossgates Cleland. He was a bachelor and worked as a coal miner. His father Michael was dead when Edward married. He had been a labourer.

Annie was 25 years and of Brownheat Paisley. She was a spinster and worked as a domestic servant. Both her parents, Robert Reilly, a farm servant, and Ann McGoldrick, were living and her father was a farm servant.
