  General Notes:

Michael McConnachie was born in 1873, a few weeks after the death of his older brother John. His father Michael was the informant of his birth before Alexander Paterson, registrar, at Shotts parish on 28 April 1873.

The 1881 census for Shotts recorded Michael McConachy living with his family at No 10 Greenhill Village. He was aged 8 years and had been born in Shotts parish where he was living. He was a scholar.

Michael McConnaghy was aged 17 years at the 1891 census. He was employed as a coal miner. He had been born in Shotts parish.

When he married in 1898 Michael's age was recorded as 24 years. His father was dead then but his mother was alive.

In 1906 it was Michael who notified the registrar of the birth of his daughter Margaret.

In 1928 when his son Thomas married, Michael was recorded in the marriage certificate as a coal miner.

Michael died at the age of 84 years in 1957. He was a widower and a retired coalminer 'brusher'. 3 4 5 6

Jim Winter Carey FRCPS (Edin) certified the cause of Michael's death.

John, Michael's son, notified the registrar, A. Johnston, at Cleland on 21 September 1957 of his father's death.


Michael married Mary Jane CURRAN, daughter of Thomas CURRAN and Mary Jane LAMOND, on 30 December 1898 in RC Chapel, Cleland, Lanarkshire, Scotland.1 (Mary Jane CURRAN was born in 1874 in Shotts parish, Lanarkshire, Scotland 7 and died in 1946 in Shotts parish (Western district), Lanarkshire, Scotland 6 8.)


  Marriage Notes:

The marriage was celebrated after banns according to the rites and forms of the Roman Catholic Church. Patrick Hackett was the celebrant. Henry Creaney and Ellen Curran were the witnesses.

Michael McConnachie of Cleland was an unmarried man of 24 years who worked as a coal miner. His father was deceased.

Mary Jane Curran of Omoa Square was also unmarried. She was a brickfield worker and was aged 23 years. Her father too was deceased.

The marriage was registered at Cleland on 2 January 1899, William Spence being the signing registrar.
