Samuel was aged 9 years when his family was recorded by the 1841 census living in Crompton Street in Riccarton parish, Ayrshire.

In 1851 the census for Riccarton recorded Samuel George, aged 19 years, the youngest in his family's list, living in Crompton Street with his parents and older sister. He was 19 years old and unmarried. He had been born in Riccarton. Like his father he was a shoemaker.

Samuel's son, Thomas, was born in 1855 at Bogside, Kilmaurs, Ayrshire. His father, Samuel, who had not been present where the birth occurred, gave notice of his birth. The information recorded states that Samuel George was then a shoemaker, aged 24 years, and had been born in Riccarton. He and his wife married in Riccarton in 1853, and at the time of registration of their new baby's birth they had one son deceased. Samuel made his X mark.

In 1871 Samuel and Margaret George were living at 19 Newton Street, Partick, Govan parish, Lanarkshire, with their four children: Thomas, 15, James, 11, Jane, 8 and Margaret, 1. Samuel worked as a shoemaker.

In 1880 Samuel was described in his son's death certificate as a journeyman shoemaker.

Samuel was a shoemaker, according to his death certificate of 1900. He left his wife, Margaret, a widow. He was aged 66 years.

Samuel's daughter, Jane or Jeanie, died in 1929. In her death certificate he was recorded as a 'shoemaker deceased'.

A similar designation was recorded in the death certificate of his daughter, Margaret, in 1946. 2 5 6 7 8
