  General Notes:

Margaret's son Thomas was born in 1855 at Kilmaurs. His birth certificate recorded information provided by the informant, the child's father Samuel George. In it it was stated that Margaret George MS Nelson (see note) was aged 21 and had been born in Oldrome [sic] Dundonald. Thomas was her third child. The certificate also recorded that the couple had 1 boy deceased, but no mention is made of who the other child was.

When her daughter Margaret married in 1895, Margaret was still alive according to the certificate.

Margaret survived her husband's death in 1900.

Her daughter Barbara's marriage certificate in 1913 records her mother Margaret Wilson as being deceased.

According to the death certificate of her daughter Jane or Jeanie Margaret was still living in 1929. 4 5

  Research Notes:

MARGARET WILSON'S ORIGINS

Margaret Wilson may have been born in 1834 at Stevenston, Ayrshire, the daughter of William Wilson and Jane Millar who were married 30 Dec 1825. A Jean or Jane Millar or Milliar was recorded as the daughter of Thomas Milliar and Jean Limburn, born in Paisley Renfrewshire in 1794. Each of these steps needs to be checked, but it would account for the use of 'Jeanie Limburn' (her maternal grandmother?) in the name of one of her children.

NAME

The IGI of Thomas George born 1855 in this family recorded his mother as Margaret Nelson. No marriage between Samuel George and Margaret Nelson has been found. The marriage of Samuel George and Margaret WILSON however precedes the birth of Thomas by just over a year; the informant of Samuel's death was his son THOMAS; and Thomas's birth was registered in Kilmaurs where James George (his cousin) had married and reared his family. All in all it is very possible that 'Margaret Wilson' was rendered as 'Margaret Nelson' through scribal error.

Margaret married Samuel GEORGE, son of Moses GEORGE and Grace BROWN, on 30 December 1853 in Riccarton parish, Ayrshire, Scotland.1 (Samuel GEORGE was born in 1831 in Riccarton parish, Ayrshire, Scotland 2 6 and died 7 September 1900 at 5.20 pm in Govan Poorhouse, Merryflats, Lanarkshire, Scotland 1 3.). The cause of his death was cardiac disease.
