   Another name for Margaret was SPANKIE, Margaret.

  General Notes:

When Margaret died in 1946, she was already a widow, the widow, as her death certificate recorded, of 'James Robertson Spankie shipyard labourer'. She died at 1301 Govan Road (the Southern General Hospital), but her usual residence was 14 Clyde Street Glasgow. Her age was recorded as 75 years, perfectly accurate since she was just nine days off her 76th birthday. Both of her parents were dead.

Thomas Harvey MB ChB certified the cause of death.

James Spankie, son of the deceased, of 45 Glanderston Drive Glasgow, gave notice of her death before J. S. Mathewson, registrar at Glasgow on March 1946.


Margaret married James Robertson SPANKIE, son of Archibald SPANKIE and Frances ROBERTSON, on 21 June 1895 in 46 St Vincent Crescent, Glasgow, Scotland.1 (James Robertson SPANKIE was born in 1863 and died before 6 March 1946.)


  Marriage Notes:

The marriage was conducted according to the forms of the United Presbyterian Church. The minister was George G. Green. The witnesses were James Quin and Hugh Quin. The marriage was registered at Glasgow on 24 June 1895, James Stirling being the registrar.

The groom, James Spankie, was a bachelor of 29 years. He gave his address as 8 Walker Street, Partick. He was a shipyard labourer.

The bride, Margaret George, was a domestic servant, and gave her address as 18 Hyndland Street, Partick, possibly her place of work. She was aged 25 years. 1
