"Peter L(awful) Robert (priest's mistake) Quigley & Mary Phieley (parents) 28 Aug. (birth) 6 Sept. (baptism)

Peter Quigley's father was a coal miner, who had been born in Ayrshire but lived in Hamilton, in Lanarkshire, at the time of Peter's birth. It was he who notified the registrar and signed the birth register on 2 September 1891. As far as is known, Peter was an only child.

In 1901 the census for Bellshill, in the parish of Bothwell, Lanarkshire, recorded Peter living with his parents at Viewpark Square, next door to a household of his Feely relatives, including his cousins Maggie, Samuel, Mary and Jane. Peter was 10 years of age and a scholar. He had been born in Hamilton.

In the 1911 census Peter Tweedly was recorded living with his wife and son Peter at 8 3/4 Meadowhead Road in Wishaw. The younger Peter Tweedly was recorded as 19 years old and single. Like his mother, he had been born in Hamilton. He was a coal miner and worked as a hewer in the mine.

When Peter married in 1918, his residence was recorded as 71 High Blantyre Road Hamilton. He gave his occupation as coal miner and he made his X mark in the register on that occasion.

Peter also gave his occupation as coal miner on his daughter, Mary's birth certificate in 1922. However, he signed his own name on this birth certificate.

Peter resided at 4 Paterson Street, Motherwell, in 1936, at the time of his father's death.

In 1937, in his daughter, Theresa's birth certificate, he was recorded as a 'coal miner (Oncost)'.

In his son Peter's marriage certificate of 1950, he was recorded as a coal miner, and was deceased by then.

Peter Quigley died, aged 53 years, in hospital. He had been a miner, a "coal hewer" as his death certificate recorded, raised a large family and left behind his wife, Alice, a widow after nearly thirty years of marriage. The family continued to reside where Peter usually resided at the time of his death, at 90 Muirhouse Avenue Motherwell. Both of his parents were deceased.

In the death certificate of his son, Andrew, in 1995 Peter Quigley was recorded as a 'coal miner deceased'. 2 3 5 6 7 8
